Winner of the First Prize Gold Medal at the International Brewers’ Exhibition in 1980, this beer is brewed to an original gravity of 1036° -1040° from a recipe which has evolved over many years. It is a full, well-hopped bitter with a reputation that exceeds the borders of its native and adjoining counties. | Pale brown ale from the Otter Brewery in Honiton, Devon
First brewed in 1990 at the Otter's holt on a 16th Century farm outside Honiton, Devon, this West Country ale has built up a strong regional following and is available nationally as a gust ale.
Otter boss David McCaig was a brewer for Whitbread for more than 17 years, and those in the know have detected more than a hint of Whitebread's classic Flowers Original in Otter Ale.
The beer is pale brown, with a predominant hop and malty taste and aftertaste. |
